Doctors at UUTH End Three-month Trade Dispute

 Gov. Udom Emmanuel

Striking medical doctors at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), Akwa Ibom State Wednesday called off the three-month-old trade dispute with the management of the tertiary health institution.
Members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) UUTH had on July 5, 2015 urged members to stop work and stay at home till further notice.

The grouse of the doctors was that management of the health facility had turned deaf ears against their welfare vowing that until their demands for improved working conditions were met, the strike would be indefinite.

The branch President of the association in the hospital, Dr. Ekerete Ekot, in a statement, said the decision of the association to end the strike was based on the intervention of the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters, Senator Ita Enang
Accordingly to him, immediately Senator Enang intervened in the strike an emergency meeting was summoned where members resolved to return to work place.

Ekot said the senator at the meeting promised to ensure that all issues relating to skipping of grade levels for resident doctors in the health facility and other areas will be adequately captured in the 2016 appropriation.
