No fewer than two people lost their lives while five other were injured in a fatal road accident which occurred on Ilesa/ Akure expressway at Ilara Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to an eyewitness, the accident which occurred on Sunday evening involved a petrol tanker and a Space wagon bus. The two vehicles were said to have had a head-on-collision, killing two of the occupants of the bus and injuring others.
The eyewitness said the accident caused traffic logjams for several hours on the busy expressway as vehicles going towards Akure and Ibadan were held up. But later the road was cleared by the men of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ondo Sector Command.
The Head of Operations of the state Sector Command of the FRSC in Akure, Mr. Akin Adedipe, when contacted on the telephone on Monday said the accident involved aVolkswagen Sharon bus with registration number: AKD384AL and a white Iveco petrol Tanker with registration number MT 261YR.
He explained that nine people were inside the two vehicles, adding that two female occupants were killed while seven others survived the accident, five got injured and two came out uninjured .
Adedipe confirmed that the accident was caused by dangerous driving by the drivers of the involved vehicles, adding that one of the vehicles overtook another, and in the process, the crash occurred.
He said the victims had been taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, the state capital, while the deceased whose identities were not known as of press time, had been deposited at the mortuary of the hospital.
